MCO Soirée Fundraiser
A night of food, music, and friends in support of the MCO
7.00-9.00pm, Tuesday, 7 November 2023
Moss House, 218 Roslyn Road
Tickets $120 ($75 tax receipt)

THE ORIGINAL SALONS—gatherings of culture, conversation, and culinary delight—followed Horace’s definition of poetry’s aim: “either to please or to educate.”

MCO’s celebrated salon-like fundraisers have always achieved both brilliantly.

On Tuesday, November 7th, MCO friends will congregate in the historic Moss House to socialize, eat, drink, and share insights into gorgeous music. Catered with a bespoke menu by favourite local chef Renée Girard, the fundraiser features a riveting talk by composer Glenn Buhr; a prelude to Ariel Barnes’ premiere of Glenn’s new cello concerto with the MCO two days later. It also features a performance by MCO musician and cellist Bery Barthol Filsaime. A dream-team.

Chef Renée Girard, who was recently singled out by The Globe and Mail as one of “the country’s next top chefs,” is a virtuoso of handmade food. She’s a former chef at Harth Mozza & Wine Bar and founder of Made by Paste, a boutique delivery-only pasta restaurant, for which she’s been chosen as a finalist in this year’s Canadian Culinary Championship.

Glenn Buhr first made his name in Winnipeg as the WSO’s composer-in-residence alongside Bramwell Tovey. These days, he can be found jamming with rock and jazz bands, and arranging for pop-folk luminaries like Scott Nolan, Sarah Slean, and Ron Sexsmith. One of the city’s great musicians, he’s just as comfortable at the High and Lonesome Club as the concert hall.
