MCO moves to fully online 2021 Spring Festival

Spring is in bloom, and a sense of hope fills the air. We hope you were able to join us for the MCO concerts we premiered online on March 12th and January 15th. Given continuing travel and gathering restrictions related to the pandemic, we have decided to also move the remainder of the season fully online. Our first concert is with Stephen Hough (“our greatest living pianist” Mail on Sunday) on Thursday, April 8thClick here for more details.

We plan to release seven concerts from April through June. In addition to Stephen Hough, confirmed guest soloists include Lucie HorschJames Sommerville, and Aisslinn Nosky, who will be recording from abroad. These performances will be interspersed with videos we’re recording locally in March and May with the orchestra and other soloists such as Tracy DahlAndriana ChuchmanAlexander Weimann, and Victoria Sparks. Our first two concert releases are still posted online at no cost to viewers.

We’re delighted to be able to present excellent online concerts for you, and already have a lot of fresh, beautifully captured new performances we’re excited to share. With circumstances still uncertain locally and globally, it may be a while before we can confirm more soloists (many of whom are international and subject to unpredictable gathering protocols that can affect recording). There may be substitutions of new programming for works that, owing to the number of musicians they call for, can’t feasibly be performed by our orchestra under Manitoba’s physical distancing guidelines.

If you’re excited to invest in these shared online musical experiences by purchasing a $20 household ticket per concert – thank you! You can order your first household ticket to our 8 April Stephen Hough concert here. Shortly after you make your order, we’ll contact you with a private (unlisted) YouTube link to the concert. Access that link at 7.30pm, 8 April to partake in the shared concert experience and engage in the live chat.  You’re free to share each link with the rest of your household, and the concert will be available for about a week after it’s posted. We’ll let you know more details about later concert releases as soon as possible, and the same procedure will apply to them.

We miss you, and look forward to further connecting with you and sharing the joy of music this spring.

Warm regards,

PS – We are hoping that a live outdoor concert may also be possible this summer, and we will be in touch about that as circumstances permit!
